Mix and Match Custom Scrapbooking Paper

I scrapbook like I organize my custom album paper: by mixing and matching product lines.

I organize all my paper by color and when you look at my custom scrapbook paper collection it looks like a rainbow.

Fall is here and with it all the fabulous new lines of Halloween paper. Sure, it’s tempting to run out and buy all the cute new papers and embellishments on the market, but I found that a few new sheets of custom album paper are perfect.

I recently picked up some darling custom scrapbook paper from the new Making Memories Halloween line. This line is perfect for mixing and matching. When I got home from the store I pulled out paper colors–both patterned and solid–that bring this fun holiday to mind: purples, blacks, oranges and greens. I mixed and matched non Halloween paper with the new paper and came up with some fun combinations. (Check back soon to my blog and you’ll see some of the results.)

Next I grabbed for my wonderful lace and ribbon stash and pulled some pieces that go great with Halloween colors.

After that I went for my drawers of fun custom album embellishments that go with the purples, oranges, blacks and greens: buttons, chipboard, diecut shapes and more.

The result? With just a few new custom scrapbook papers and embellishments I was able to mix and match with what I had and save money. It was so much fun it felt like I was going on another mini scrapbook shopping spree . . . this time in my own home!

Don’t be afraid to shop across product lines. When you create custom scrapbook layouts using products exclusively from one line you can make an attractive page but it takes out some of the fun and spontaneous features that can happen if you mix and match your products instead. The next time you’re tempted to buy an entire product line, challenge yourself to pick out just your favorite pieces. Then go home and try mixing and matching with what you have. I think you will love the results for your custom scrapbooking.
